A measles alert was issued for people who visited Boston’s Logan International Airport last week, advising them and others that the infection has been tracked from there to various locations around the city, the Boston Globe reported.

The biggest problem is that someone passing through the airport may have been infected and is now spreading measles at their destination.

A person diagnosed with the virus reportedly visited “a number of locations” from Aug. 15 through Aug. 21 and others who visited those areas during that time may have been exposed to the illness.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that can be spread through coughing and sneezing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted.

A person who is not immune can catch it just by breathing in the contaminated air or touching an infected surface and then touching their eyes, noses, or mouths.

The problem is that infected people can spread the virus four days before and after the main symptoms develop.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has advised that anyone who visited the locations (listed below) on the dates and times provided should “contact their health care provider to confirm their immunization status,” the Globe noted.

Officials said people infected with the virus may be starting to show symptoms which includes fever, coughing, a runny nose and red, watery eyes, according to the CDC.

Complications from measles can arise, Vox noted, with up to 40 percent of those infected with the virus developing more severe symptoms and related illnesses such a pneumonia.

According to WCVB, exposure to the infected person may have occurred at the following locations and times:

1. Logan Airport Terminal B- Aug. 15, 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

2. Lexington High School Library- Aug. 16, 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

3. Irving H. Mabee Town Pool Complex- Aug. 19, 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

4. Lahey Outpatient Center, Lexington- Aug. 20, 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

5. Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Burlington, Emergency Department- Aug. 20, 1:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

6. Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Burlington, Inpatient Units 7 Central, 6 Central and 5 Central (ICU and CCU)- Aug. 20 from 8:00 p.m. to August 21 at 9:00 p.m.
