World-renowned evangelist Billy Graham celebrated his 99th birthday Tuesday at his home in North Carolina surrounded by his family.
Graham planned have his favorite lemon cake with lard icing to mark the occasion, WRAL reported.
Graham's son Franklin Graham said on the evangelist's website, "As a family, we are just so very grateful that he is still with us. His mind is good, but he's quieter these days. He can't see or hear well, but his health is stable. … I know my father is grateful for all the prayers for him and birthday wishes on this special occasion."
The website also noted that the coming year will feature ministry highlights with special content on the website and in Decision magazine.
Billy Graham has preached the gospel to nearly 215 million people in 185 countries and territories and is credited with leading 3.2 million people to salvation, the website reported. His simple, down-to-earth preaching style is attractive to many and made the Billy Graham Crusades popular enough to fill stadiums over more than five decades.
"I'm not a great preacher, and I don't claim to be a great preacher," Graham once said, his website reported. "I'm an ordinary preacher, just communicating the Gospel in the best way I know how."
Graham gives all the credit for his accomplishments to God.
"If anything has been accomplished through my life, it has been solely God's doing, not mine, and He—not I—must get the credit," Graham said on his website.
The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association continues to share the gospel with people around the world through the website, television shows, and live events.
