Billy Brown, star of the hit Discovery reality TV series "Alaskan Bush People," has died at age 68. The adventurer passed away Sunday after suffering a stroke, his son, Bear Brown, revealed on his private Instagram account.
"We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved patriarch Billy Brown passed away last night after suffering from a seizure. He was our best friend — a wonderful and loving dad, granddad and husband and he will be dearly missed," Bear wrote, according to People.
"He lived his life on his terms, off the grid and off the land and taught us to live like that as well," he continued. "We plan to honor his legacy going forward, and to continue with his dream. We ask for privacy and prayers during this painful time. God Bless Everyone!"
"Alaskan Bush People" first aired in 2014. The reality TV show takes a closer look at the Brown family, who live off-the-grid in the deep wilderness of Alaska, New York Post noted. The show posted a tribute to Billy Monday on Twitter.
"We are devastated to hear of Billy Brown’s sudden passing," the tweet read. "He has been part of the @Discovery family for years - a trailblazer, a lovely man, and most definitely one of a kind. Our heart is with his family and those that knew him as they deal with this devastating loss."
Billy was raised in Texas and spent years working as a commercial fisherman in the northern Pacific, according to his biography posted on Discovery's website. After marrying Ami, the pair decided to lay down their roots in the bush of Alaska, where they raised their children Matt, Bam Bam, Bear, Gabe, Noah, Snowbird and Rainy. Billy was a traveler but always said his home was with his family.
"As long as Ami and my family are beside me, I'll ride the wind of adventure to the end," he said, per Discovery.
