Bill Murray putted with President Obama in the Oval Office during a commercial shoot to promote signing up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
While the shoot was mainly intended to encourage Americans to sign up for health insurance by Dec. 15 for coverage beginning in January, Murray and the president poked fun at each other in the process.
That began right when Murray walked in the Oval Office trolling President Obama, as he wore a Chicago Cubs pullover knowing that the president is a White Sox fan, Voux Magazine noted.
“Generally, I don’t let Cubs fans into the Oval Office,” the president joked as the two could be seen putting into a glass during the Affordable Care Act commercial, USA Today noted.
“It’s probably not a coincidence that your popularity is at an all-time high. So, I would just stick with this if I were you,” Murray responded as he pointed to the Cubs logo on his pullover. “I would just ride this baby.”
While on camera, Obama gave Murray some advice about dealing with a knee that he says “barks a little bit.” Obama explained to Murray how he can shop for insurance suited for him on HealthCare.gov. As the president was talking health care, Murray was sinking more putts and kindly taunting him.
“Where does Michelle keep your money?” the famous actor asked. “Which drawer is it in?”
“Just stay out of those drawers and don’t press any buttons,” Obama replied.
Obama elaborated on Murray’s White House visit when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live recently.
“He came into the Oval Office in a Cubs shirt,” Obama said, according to CBS Sports. “First of all, most people come in a shirt and tie. It was Bill Murray so I get no tie. He agreed to do a little social media skit about signing up…people who didn’t have health care…because open enrollment is coming up. We decided we were going to putt on the carpet in the Oval Office. Somebody grabbed a glass so we were trying to putt in the glass. He won repeatedly! The glass was rigged. I was a little frustrated.”
“What makes matters worse is he was giving me tips about putting,” Obama added. “He’s all, ‘I think your right hand is a little too firm.’…Bill, you’re a comedian not a golfer. He took money from me. I paid him $5. Basically the whole visit was a disaster.”
