Bill Dugan caught five foul balls at Comerica Park in Detroit and then became a "baseball Santa Claus" by giving them all away to children, gushed the
Detroit Free Press.
Dugan, 39, a Detroit Tigers season ticket holder, said all the balls landed within a 15-foot radius of his seat, near a walkway between sections 124 and 125 at the downtown ballpark.
The Roseville, Michigan resident had four of the foul balls by the fifth inning (plus another ball he snagged during batting practice), said the Free Press. Foul ball No. 5 came in the eighth inning. His exploits were being followed on social media.
Then he gave them all away.
"I just gave the last one away," Dugan told the Free Press. "I couldn't deny someone I said I'd give a ball to … I've got a room full of them, so I can't be too greedy."
The
Detroit News noted that Dugan gained the attention of the fans around him as the home town team was getting thumped by the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-4.
The News said one fan yelled out "Casino, baby," when Dugan grabbed his fifth foul ball, while another asked, "You have an agent now?"
Dugan said he was more than happy to give away the balls since he has from 200 to 300 baseballs at home from foul balls he's caught over the years as a Tigers fan, noted the Free Press.
