“Bigfoot erotica” is now an issue in a Virginia U.S. House race after Democrat Leslie Cockburn accused Republican Denver Riggleman of being a fan of the genre, the Charlottesville Daily Progress reported.
Cockburn made it an issue in a Twitter post, saying there was an image on Riggleman's Instagram page – which reportedly is set on private – depicting the mythical Bigfoot creature with a large black bar across its genital area, according to the Daily Progress on Sunday.
The image is marked, "Cover art for #matinghabitsofbigfoot almost complete. I hide nothing in this magnificent tome. Don't erase the censor box…," the Daily Progress said.
Cockburn has been slamming Riggleman for his relationship with Republican U.S. Senate nominee Corey Stewart, who she accused of campaigning with a white supremacist, the newspaper said.
"Now he has been exposed as a devotee of Bigfoot erotica," Cockburn said. "This is not what we need on Capitol Hill."
Riggleman charged that the photo was a joke his military friends played on him and never intended to be used politically, the Daily Progress said. He called Cockburn's tweeting of the photo "absurd."
Riggleman, a retired Air Force intelligence officer turned distillery owner, recently deleted his Facebook author page which appeared to promote a self-published book titled "The Mating Habits of Bigfoot and Why Women Want Him," according to the Cook Political Report.
The Charlottesville Congressional fifth district leans Republican and Cockburn and Riggleman are fighting to replace Republican Tom Garrett, who announced that he is retiring from Congress, the political report said.
The political report said Cockburn, the mother of Hollywood actress Olivia Wilde, published a 1991 book critical of Israel, which her opponents suggested was evidence she is too extreme.
