A Beyonce wax figure introduced at Madame Tussauds in New York City this week has brought charges by some of the singer’s fans that it was a "whitewashing."
The criticism had become so intense on social media that Madame Tussauds defended the wax remake of Beyonce, according to London's Daily Mail.
Some Beyonce fans, who are known sometimes to be hyper-sensitive and critical, went online and compared the wax figure to Mariah Carey, Taylor Swift, Kesha, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and even Kate Hudson – everyone but Beyoncé. For example:
In a statement to TMZ, Madame Tussauds said much of the problem was due to bad lighting.
"Our talented team of sculptors takes every effort to ensure we accurately color match all of our wax figures to the celebrity being depicted," said the museum. "Lighting within the attraction combined with flash photography may distort and misrepresent the color of our wax figures."
Comments on Twitter, though, continued to pour in.
