Country music icon Garth Brooks is facing massive backlash for wearing a "Sanders" jersey on Saturday after his show in Detroit. But the people attacking him completely misinterpreted the situation as support for Bernie Sanders!
"The Dance" hitmaker wore a “Sanders” shirt with the number 20 on it in honor of former Detroit Lions legendary running back Barry Sanders. But many fans mistook the photo Brooks uploaded to Instagram as a nod to Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
"Good grief. Can’t you just do what you get paid to do ???? Why why why does it have to involve politics !!! So sad. We don’t pay good money for anything other than to watch you perform. Thought you were different," one user wrote.
"Nothing like supporting a communist to loss a few fans! How about going to a successful socialist country and doing some research? Oh yes, you can’t because there aren’t ANY successful socialist countries!," another user responded.
"If that’s Bernie shirt I just lost a lot of respect for you!" another follower wrote.
Other fans expressed their approval of Brooks' shirt, which they also believed was in support of Bernie Sanders.
"YEAH GARTH BERNIE 2020," one user wrote.
"Glad to see Garth is feeling the Bern!," responded another follower.
Dozens of football fans pointed out the misunderstanding and Brooks confirmed that he had worn the jersey as a tribute to the Pro Football Hall of Famer. Addressing the audience at his show, Brook said, "can I just tell ya, you guys got the greatest player in NFL history in my opinion," according to The Blaze.
