Ben Stiller is officially cancer-free, three years after a prostate cancer diagnosis. At 51, he is intent on educating men about the PSA test that he thanks for saving his life.

In an interview on the “Today” show Wednesday morning, the actor said he is feeling happy and healthy after beating prostate cancer.

“I’m three years, now, cancer-free,” he said.

In October 2016, People magazine reported that Stiller was being interviewed on the Howard Stern show when he revealed that he had beaten prostate cancer two years previously. The actor explained that early detection saved him, and he wanted to spread the word about Prostate-Specific Antigen testing.

The PSA test measures the amount of prostate-specific antigens in blood. High levels can indicate developing or full-blown prostate cancer, requiring various tests including an MRI or biopsy to confirm a diagnosis.

“I'm really happy that getting the word out there, about the PSA test, has actually made a little bit of a difference, I think. A lot of people talk to me, and also the United States Preventive Services Task Force changed their guideline and recommended that you speak with your doctor about taking the test. So, I think it's a good move."

“If I hadn’t gotten the test, my doctor started giving it to me at 46, I still wouldn’t know,” he added.

Stiller, who is famous for his roles in box office hits such as “Meet the Fockers,” also used the interview as an opportunity to promote his new movie, “Brad’s Status.” In the movie, due out on Friday, Stiller plays a man facing a mid-life crisis who is jealous of the success of the friends he follows on social media. Fans took to Twitter to express their delight at Stiller’s latest health update.
