A man pulled a fellow passenger to safety after a Bearskin Airlines plane crash in Ontario Sunday, barely escaping before the plane burst into flames, killing five people on board.
The twin engine turboprop crashed about 6:30 p.m. as it approached the Red Lake Airport, killing both pilots and three passengers on board. A 29-year-old man rescued a 50-year-old woman from the crash, and
both are in a local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, the Canadian Press said. Both are from Winnipeg. The names of the other three passengers had not been released yet.

The pilots were
Capt. Peter Traczuk, 34, and Aniruddh Sawant, 25, the Toronto Star said.
“He wanted to be a pilot forever,” Sawant’s brother, Sid, told the Star. “Even when he was a little kid, he wanted to fly. We used to joke around that he learned to fly before he could drive.”
Traczuk is from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and was married with children. Friends went to his Facebook page to express their horror at the accident and their sorrow for the family.
“This is Janice Christa's mom,” Traczuk’s mother-in-law wrote. “Just wanted to say how much we appreciate all your thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time. Christa is still in shock and denial. But I am trying to pass on all your messages as best I can. Thanks again.”
Authorities said the man who survived the crash pulled the other woman out of the wreckage and then was able to call the police himself, the Canadian Press said. Both are listed in stable condition but are still in shock and asking that their names not be released.
The Star reported that pilots called in an emergency about 10 minutes before the crash. The flight recorder has been recovered and the cause of the accident is being investigated.
