A record-setting bass was caught in Texas by a couple who used a McDonald’s chicken McNugget as bait.

Matthey McNellis and his girlfriend were fishing in Ennis at Lake Bardwell in May and not catching anything when his girlfriend suggested using a chicken McNugget as bait. He soon caught a 24.5-inch bass that weighed almost 11 pounds, Fox News reported.

They had the fish weighed at the Highview Marina, which said it was the largest fish caught at the lake, Fox reported. The record was unofficial, but the Marina posted photos on social media and the couple tossed the fish back into the lake.

The post drew many comments, including some about the bait used in the big catch.

"Invest in McDonald’s stock! They r about to sell out of chicken nuggets!" said one fisherman.

"Note to self to stop by McDonald’s first before coming," another said.

"I guess a bass like that is gonna be outta my reach," another posted. "Because I ain’t sharing my McNuggets with nobody!!"

Still another commenter said, "Maybe I should give it a try since nothing else I throw at them seems to work! LOL."

McNellis said he hasn’t told McDonald’s about his catch, but he might use a Wendy’s seasoned French fry for bait on his next fishing adventure, CBS News reported.

Twitter fans were full of opinions on the matter.
