Major League Baseball's Opening Day is here and, for the first time since 1968, all MLB teams will take the field on the same day.
Well, almost.
In Detroit Thursday, the Opening Day game between the Tigers and the Pittsburgh Pirates was called off because of rain and has been rescheduled for Friday at Comerica Park, according to MLive.com. The website stated that last year's Tigers opener against the Chicago White Sox was delayed two hours because of rain.
Ditto for the Cincinnati Reds hosting the Washington Nationals in its Opening Day contest. The game has been postponed until Friday because of rain, USA Today reported.
The Chicago Cubs, now one full season away from the 2016 World Series title, will open up the schedule with a nationally televised game at the Miami Marlins at 12:40 p.m. on ESPN. The game marks the regular season debut of former Yankee great Derek Jeter as chief executive officer and part-owner of the Marlins.
The current World Series champion Houston Astros will also be on the road Opening Day, but not very far from home as the team travels to Arlington to take on the in-state rival Texas Rangers at 3:35 p.m. Justin Verlander, who delayed his wedding with supermodel Kate Upton for the seventh game of the World Series, gets the start for Houston against Cole Hamels.
According to MLB.com, the rest of the Opening Day games include:
St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets, 1:10 p.m.
