The mother of Kentucky school shooting victim Bailey Holt said her daughter called her as the rampage took place but was unable to speak during the call.
“She called me, and all I could hear was voices, chaos in the background,” Secret Holt told WKRN-TV. “She couldn’t say anything and I tried to call her name over and over and over and she never responded. We rushed to the high school, and they wouldn’t let us get through.”
The 15-year-old was one of two students killed in Tuesday's shooting; the other was Preston Ryan Cope, also 15.
An unidentified male student at Marshall County High School was arrested and will likely be charged as an adult in the attack, according to CBS News. He also is 15.
Bailey Holt’s parents found out she was killed in the shooting when she didn’t get off the buses that took students to another school nearby.
Secret Holt told WKRN her daughter was a “perfect sweet soul” and that her loss was “unbearable for our family.”
“Even though she was 15, she had already decided her career was going to be a labor and delivery nurse,” Holt said. “She helped others ... she was just so kindhearted and the most amazing kid anybody could ask for. Her smile could light up the room.”
“She was perfect in every way,” Jasen Holt said of his daughter, WKRN reported. “She was an angel here on Earth.”
Eighteen people were injured in the attack, which was the 11th school shooting in the first 25 days of the year.
