Bucket List Baby Dies Hours After Birth; Parents Gave Him Experiences

A newborn baby whose parents created a bucket list before he was born with a rare birth defect died hours after being born on Thursday.

Parents Jenna and Dan Haley knew that their son, Shane Michael Haley, would be born with anencephaly, a condition that means the baby would be missing parts of his brain and skull. So they made a bucket list, and long before Shane was delivered, took him to meet the Philadelphia Phillies, to the top of the Empire State Building, and introduced him to the Philly's famous cheesesteaks.

On their Facebook page, Prayers for Shane, the parents posted Thursday, “Today at 6:15AM, after meeting his entire family and being baptized into the Catholic faith, baby Shane died peacefully in his Mother's arms .. we are so grateful for the time that we were blessed to hold and hug our son.”

More than 700,000 people follow the Facebook page, and their support was acknowledged by the Haleys, as well.

“The support and prayers we have received from all of you have been amazing and we want to thank each of you with all our hearts,” the couple wrote Thursday. “Shane spent his entire life in the arms of people that loved him unconditionally and I don't think you could ask for a more beautiful life then that .. he is home now with the Lord and will forever be our little miracle!”

The Haleys' posts about their pregnancy and Shane's loving welcome into the world moved many people online.

“Some people go their entire lives and never really make a difference while on earth. Shane has not even made his grand entrance here and yet he has managed to touch the hearts of millions around the world,” one woman wrote on Facebook.
