Axelrod Shuns Appearance on Bill Maher Show

By    |   Wednesday, 14 March 2012 01:37 PM EDT

David Axelrod, a top campaign adviser for President Barack Obama, has decided not to appear on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” despite reports last week that he would be a guest on the show sometime during the next few weeks.

“He's not scheduled to go on at this time,” Ben LaBolt, the press secretary for Obama’s re-election campaign, told Politico. Maher, who donated $1 million to the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA, has drawn heavy fire from the GOP for some recent incendiary remarks. Among other misogynist comments, he called former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin an [expletive] in a stand-up comedy routine and a "dumb ****” on his HBO show.

The controversy over Maher’s remarks arose after Democrats attacked talk radio star Rush Limbaugh for his criticism of a female student at Georgetown law school. Axelrod lashed out at presidential candidate Mitt Romney over the Limbaugh remarks, saying Romney “essentially refused to comment on what was a really egregious set of comments by Limbaugh. . . He’s afraid to challenge a guy who’s the de-facto head of his party.”

Axelrod apparently isn’t the only Democrat reluctant to associate with Maher now. The Daily Caller reported last week that the Alabama Democratic Party erased from its web site an announcement of its upcoming fundraiser led by Maher.
