Iconic movie actress Audrey Hepburn’s two sons Sean Ferrer and Luca Dotti are fighting over her belongings, with the children’s foundation they created after her death suing Ferrer for preventing it from using items to raise money.
Hepburn, who died in 1993, left her sons a 50/50 split of all she owned, but did not specify which items would go to which son. The brothers created the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Foundation and agreed to sell the items and donate the proceeds to the charity.
The items, which include gowns, hats, purses, and jewelry, have become very valuable to Hepburn’s fans and have the potential to sell for thousands of dollars each.
Apparently, Sean Ferrer suffered a financial crisis in 2008 and began to interfere with the foundation, saying it could not sell items or use Hepburn’s name without his permission, according to People. The foundation said Ferrer tried in 2013 to block it from using Hepburn memorabilia in fundraising efforts, but he was unsuccessful.
Although the brothers seem to be mediating their disputes over how to split Hepburn’s belongings, the foundation recently filed suit against Ferrer to assert that he cannot stop the charity from fundraising with memorabilia items and doesn’t need his permission to do so, People reported.
“The fund is not pretending that Sean does not have a right to use her name and image and likeness ... but the issue is this continuing assertion of control or purported control that Sean believes he has so that nothing can happen using her name or likeness or image regarding the fund’s ability to put on exhibits with memorabilia that it owns, which has brought this to a head,” lawyer for the children’s fund Steve E. Young said, People reported.
