Over 25 years have passed since Audrey Hepburn died from cancer and now a series of never-before-seen photographs of the Hollywood icon have emerged, along with the story of a secret love affair.

In one image, Hepburn appears elegant and beautiful sitting on the beach, while in another black-and-white portrait she appears fresh-faced and demure. There is a stark contrast between photographs published in the new book "Always Audrey," but each one captures the chemistry shared between her and celebrated photographer Milton H. Greene — the man she had a romance with.

"Because they were friends who were intimately close, there's an added excitement when he's photographing her," said Joshua Greene, Milton's son, in an interview with People.

This is the first time he is speaking about the love affair between Hepburn and his father, who finally shared the secret with his son before passing away in 1984.

Hepburn and Milton began their romance shortly after they met in 1951, during a photoshoot for Life Magazine. There was an instant attraction.

"He didn't pursue women, but there were certain women he really enjoyed being with, and Audrey was one of them," Joshua told The Hollywood Reporter.

The relationship lasted several months and after it ended, Hepburn married Mel Ferrer in 1954. The couple split in 1968 and Hepburn then married Andrea Dotti in 1969. The marriage lasted several years and after they divorced, Hepburn started a relationship with Robert Wolders. That lasted until her death. Milton, meanwhile, married Joshuas mother Amy Greene in 1953.

Despite being involved with other people, Hepburn and Milton remained close friends.

"It's pretty amazing that they had a relationship but remained friends all their lives," Joshua continued. "They would call each other all the time."

And how did their friendship survive all those years? Joshua credits it to the fact that both his father and Audrey were "big-hearted" people.
