Atlanta Motor Speedway said Wednesday that it would make its camping and RV facilities available to those seeking shelter amid Hurricane Irma.
The facilities will open to evacuees starting Thursday and their resources will be free, according to Sporting News.
The facilities have the capacity to provide thousands of people with shelter, and evacuees will also have access to bathrooms and showers at the Rinnai Shower Station camper bath house located adjacent to the speedway.
According to the Motor Speedway's website, evacuees interested in taking shelter at the RV or tent camping sites, can enter the property from entrance "E," which is accessible off Georgia Highway 19/41.
If evacuees are traveling from I-75 and Highway 20, they'll see signs leading them to AMS' entrance "H." AMS is also accessible from entrance "G," which is located just off of Richard Petty Boulevard.
On Thursday, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal ordered a mandatory evacuation of the state's coastal areas that takes effect Saturday and expanded a state of emergency to include 30 counties, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The governor also authorized active duty for up to 5,000 Georgia National Guard members to respond to the storm, which has already killed at least 10 people in the Caribbean.
