An Atlanta doctor braved snowy conditions and trekked a mile on foot to get to his patients at a local hospital last week.
Thousands of motorists were stranded in icy conditions throughout the city, KMOV noted.
Among them was Dr. Dean McKenzie, the chief of cardiothoracic surgery at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, but instead of throwing his hands up in defeat he decided to walk through the ice and snow to get to the hospital.
One of McKenzie's patients is Madden Beckwith, who has congenital heart disease and who underwent open heart surgery in December, Inside Edition reported.
His mother, Laura Beckwith, said that when she met the doctor there was something about him that drew her to choosing him as a physician.
When she heard about his snowy trek, Laura Beckwith said she was not surprised.
"When I heard that he walked, I immediately was like, 'Of course he did,'" she said, according to Inside Edition. "It exemplifies the type of person he is."
According to the hospital, McKenzie took on the role as chief of cardiothoracic surgery for the Children's Sibley Heart Center in January last year and is a leading expert on surgically treating congenital heart conditions.
A post was shared to the hospital's Facebook page acknowledging McKenzie's dedication and thanking staff for braving treacherous weather conditions to make it to work.
"Thank you to the men and women on our staff who made it possible to continue with surgeries, procedures and exams as winter weather swirled outside this week!" it said.
