An Arizona cheerleader was ejected from a game after singling out and heckling an Arizona State player with a megaphone.
Thursday night's game between Arizona and Arizona State in Tempe was interrupted during the second half as the fiery Wildcat cheerleader, who has not been named, was led out of the venue, the Arizona Republic reported.
Anonymous sources told ESPN that Arizona State guard Remy Martin was the target of the cheerleader's antics.
"Not today, Remy," he said to Martin, who was at the free throw line.
The referee, Randy McCall, approached the scorer's table and said the cheerleader needed to "get out of here," another anonymous source told ESPN.
"He was yelling, using the (megaphone) to call out people by name, which is not acceptable. And he was asked to please stop, and he chose not to," McCall said.
"And he was asked to please stop, and he chose not to," the referee added, per The Daily Mail.
Although the cheerleader did not use profanity, he was still in contravention of Rule 10, Article 8 of the official referee handbook, which prohibits cheerleaders from yelling into their megaphones during game play and does not allow them to call out player's names, the Arizona Republic noted.
The Wildcats were trailing at the time of the incident but went on to win 77-70, ABC News noted.
