"The Little Mermaid's" Ariel made a splash on ABC's fairy tale drama "Once Upon a Time" Sunday night, and the long-anticipated episode did not disappoint fans.
The series, which features characters from classic fairy tales like Snow White, Peter Pan, and Pinocchio, has been building up to the introduction of Ariel, played by JoAnna Garcia, for some time.

"The idea of doing this has been in my life for a while, so I was happy when they figured out a way for
Ariel to come into the story that I was able to do this," Garcia told The Hollywood Reporter. "To be able to play a beloved Disney princess has been a dream come true."
Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays the main part of Snow White on "Once Upon a Time," also opened up recently about the Ariel episode.
"I really desperately did not want to be part of the
Ariel storyline because I figured it would involve getting wet. And it did," she told AccessHollywood.com. "But it ended up being one of my favorite episodes I've filmed, truly.
"I think that the Ariel introduction is going to make all of our fans and all the Disney fans supremely happy because she’s everything you want Ariel to be and the actress who plays her brings this layer of emotional intelligence to it that I didn’t really foresee that I found super impressive and meshes really well with all of the rest of our characters in our world."
Goodwin was right — fans flocked to Twitter to discuss Ariel's debut on "Once."
"Once Upon a Time" airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
