Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Strokes Members Create One-Night Supergroup

By    |   Monday, 22 September 2014 03:09 PM EDT

Members of Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, and The Strokes joined together to wow the crowd at the 2014 Pop Montreal charity basketball game Saturday, creating the Pop All Star Band for a one-time appearance.

The supergroup consisted of Arcade Fire brothers Win and Will Butler, who organized the Pop Vs. Jock charity basketball game, Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, and Nikolai Fraiture of The Strokes. Regine Chassagne, DJ Kid Koala, and A-Trak were also onstage for the performance.

Proceeds from the game go to DJ Sports Club, a Montreal program that organizes sports for local kids.

The group, clad in their black and white “Pop vs Jock” shirts, covered “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins and “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes.

All of the musicians played for the Pop team in the basketball game, and they were joined by Brent Barry and Matt Bonner; the team won 101-92.

“The halftime show was an awesome mess, beginning with a koala-costumed Kid Koala leading a parade of animal-costumed kids around the gym and stands; followed by a kazoo competition between randomly-selected audience members; a karaoke version of Alanis Morisette song by Luke Bonner, after he lost a 3-point competition to his brother,” the Montreal Gazette wrote, “and a one-song performance by a makeshift indie supergroup featuring the Butlers, Fraiture, Vernon, Chassagne, Koala and A-Trak, playing Phil Collins’s In the Air Tonight.”

Fans were excited about the collaboration.
