An AR-15 for every American is gunmaker Justin Moon’s vision, expressed as he sat in his Kahr Arms office in the Poconos and discussed an elaborate plan to fulfil that wish, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
“I mean, every American should really have an AR,” the Harvard-educated firearms manufacturer said. “It’s America’s rifle.”
Moon’s dream simmers amid heated national debate on stricter gun control measures, fueled by the latest mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida. Just this week, thousands of students across the U.S. walked out of classrooms, demanding action on greater gun control, and as Vox reported, there have been calls on federal and state lawmakers to pass gun control legislation.
As a self-confessed Republican, Moon said he would be “one of the deplorables, clinging to God and guns,” against any age restrictions, limitations on specific guns and bans on the bump stock, the Inquirer said.
Moon happens to be the son of the late Rev. Sun Myung Moon, who founded the controversial Unification Church in South Korea which follows both traditional biblical teachings and his own divine principles, Vox noted.
The church has aligned itself with right-wing and GOP party politics and has made pro-gun rhetoric a part of its religious and financial activities.
A recent ceremony held at the World Peace and Unification Sanctuary in Newfoundland, Pennsylvania saw worshippers toting AR-15 rifles as they gathered to hold a “commitment ceremony” for over 200 couples.
Justin Moon came to the U.S. from South Korea when he was three and has been earning a living as a successful firearms manufacturer after founding Kahr Arms in 1995.
Twenty years later he opened new headquarters in “gun-friendly” Pennsylvania.
“I’m going to make a standard AR-15 with my brand on it,” he told the Inquirer. “The AR-15 is the most popular rifle in America. It’s the most common rifle in America.”
Guns.com reported that Kahr Arms sales have been increasing annually by about 30 percent and Justin Moon has a long-term plan to augment manufacturing capacity through acquisition.
Edwin Gragert, a local resident and member of the Delaware Valley Democratic Club, said Moon’s “glorification of assault rifles” had no place in their town.
“These weapons are designed to shoot people.”
