April Ryan says she has gotten death threats after asking whether President Donald Trump has considered resigning during a press briefing with press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Sanders called Ryan's question "ridiculous" and moved on as Ryan attempted to defend her question.
Ryan told CNN that reactions have been widespread.
"People have gone into their tribes," Ryan told CNN. "Some are saying it was a great question, mostly people who do not support this president. Those who are supporting this president are outraged, are angry. I've been getting death threats and we've been calling the FBI. … I asked a question and now my life is in jeopardy because of a question. But I'm going to continue to do my job."
The White House Correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks defended her question in light of the FBI raid on the office of Michael Cohen, Trump's attorney, saying sources have said it's a possibility.
"When you have turmoil or conflicts constantly coming up or are making major decisions where people are investigating you, there is always a scenario at the White House where there is Plan A, B, C, or D or what have you. And it’s on the table, and it has been on the table," Ryan told CNN.
This isn't the first time Ryan has gotten death threats. A year ago she was criticized after former press secretary Sean Spicer told her to "please stop shaking your head" during his answer to a question about the perception of connections between the Trump administration and Russia, USA Today reported.
In January, Ryan said backlash against the media had some journalists on edge over threats with "the FBI, the local police on speed dial just for asking questions," Newsweek reported.
Twitter users shared mixed reactions to the exchange.
