Anthony Noto, a Goldman Sachs managing director who worked with Twitter during its initial public offering last fall, has been named chief financial officer of the social media company, according to Twitter's Security and Exchange Commission filing.

Twitter filed its documents with the SEC on Monday, announcing Noto as its new financial leader, signed by Vijaya Gadde, the company's general counsel and secretary.

Noto expressed his feelings about his new position Tuesday on, well, Twitter.

According to USA Today, Noto had worked at Goldman Sachs as a managing director since 2010. Mike Gupta, who Noto replaces as chief financial officer at Twitter, was bumped upstairs to become the social media company's senior vice president of strategic investments.

Goldman Sachs was the lead underwriter on Twitter's initial public offering last year, with Noto serving as its main banker, according to USA Today. Noto worked as the chief financial officer for the NFL before joining Goldman Sachs, stated the newspaper. Noto's star was rising because of his work with Twitter, according to Bloomberg.com.

"Twitter is helping Goldman Sachs bounce back after the investment bank was trounced by Morgan Stanley for the prime spot on social-media deals from LinkedIn Corp. to Facebook Inc.," reported Bloomberg.com back in October. "Noto, who co-manages technology investment banking with George Lee, has helped drive new deals for New York-based Goldman Sachs since returning to his former employer from the NFL, where he was chief financial officer."

Twitter, which makes the bulk of it money off advertising, raked in $582.8 million through September of last year before its initial public offering and $288.3 million in 2012, according to estimates by eMarketer.

Twitter, which gained in popularity at the 2007 South By Southwest Interactive festival in Austin, Texas, claimed more than 200 million users last year.
