Anne Allen was arrested on first and second degree murder charges in connection with the death of her estranged husband, former FBI investigator Scott Horn, according to the Laurel Leader which dug out the story after it dropped at the start of a long holiday weekend.
Allen, 62, was also charged last Friday with conspiracy to commit murder and the use of a handgun in a crime of violence, according to the Laurel Leader. Horn's death on March 16 was ruled a homicide after he was found dead in his yard about 9 p.m. with "major trauma" to his upper body, said the Laurel Leader on The Baltimore Sun's news site.
Allen was arrested by Laurel Police on Friday and was being held without bond at the Prince George's Correctional Facility.
The Washington Post reported that Allen was considered a suspect shortly after Horn's death, but authorities spent the past several months building a case against her. They obviously had a reason to act at the start of what becomes a 5-day hoiday.
The Post reported that according to court documents Horn's children called police on the date he was found, stating that his car was outside his home in the 200 block of Patuxent Road but police found nothing at that time.
Horn's son said he found his father's body two hours after police left and after he saw the "silhouette" of a person dumping objects near a shed, per the Post.
Horn suffered a puncture wound on the back of his neck, which the medical examiner determined could have come from a gunshot, court documents stated, according to the Post.
Allen's attorney, Andrew Jezic, told the Laurel Leader that Allen and Horn were not estranged at the time of his death, but were living together and trying to make their marriage work.
The newspaper said Horn had filed for divorce from Allen in December 2016.
