"Anastasia" the Broadway musical, created from the animated movie of the same name, will open next year on April 24 at the Broadhurst Theatre.
The production will include songs from the 1997 film mixed with a new score by the Tony Award-winning team of composer Stephen Flaherty and lyricist Lynn Ahrens, according to
The Wrap.
The show will star Christy Altomare, Derek Klena, John Bolton, and Caroline O’Connor.
The production recently completed its world premiere at Hartford Stage in Connecticut,
Variety reported, calling the premiere "stunningly staged, emotionally rich and expertly crafted."
The story follows a girl who may be a 20th century Russian princess who travels to 1920s Paris to unravel the mystery of her past.
Darko Tresnjak will direct, Terrence McHally wrote the book, and Peggy Hickey is the choreographer.
"After finishing a record breaking run in Hartford, we look forward to bringing the magic of Anastasia to Broadway audiences next spring," producers Bill Taylor and Tom Kirdahy said, per
Entertainment Weekly. "In Hartford, we saw people ages 8-100 travel from all over the world to enjoy Anastasia’s enduring story. We are thrilled to have Christy, Derek, John and Caroline leading our company again for the Broadway premiere."
Twitter users shared their enthusiasm for the production.
