Actress and comedian Amy Schumer has announced she will no longer star in the live-action Barbie movie being planned by Sony and Mattel due to conflicts in her schedule.

Schumer was tapped in December to play the iconic doll character, but a full schedule of movies releasing and a decision to join the cast of “She Came to Me” with Steve Carell made it impossible to follow through on the Barbie film.

“Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to 'Barbie' due to scheduling conflicts,” Schumer said, Variety reported. “The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”

The film will now need a new leading lady along with a director, who had not yet been chosen. Sony had pushed the release back from May 12, 2017, to June 29, 2018, but couldn’t push it back further to accommodate Schumer’s existing project schedule because of merchandising deals, Variety reported.

Schumer was said to have done a polish on the script for the movie, but it is not clear whether those changes will be kept now that she has moved on, according to Us Weekly.

Schumer was bodyshamed after taking the role and responded to critics by saying she is strong and proud of how she lives her life, adding, “Anyone who has been bullied or felt bad about yourself I am out there fighting for you, for us. ... We need to laugh at the haters and sympathize with them.”

There was no love lost on Twitter about Schumer exiting the role.
