"American Horror Story" re-edited a mass shooting scene after the Las Vegas massacre that left 58 dead and hundreds injured.
Show creator Ryan Murphy revealed that Tuesday’s upcoming episode, "Mid-Western Assassin," had been edited to be less graphic, TV Line noted.
The grizzly scene was filmed prior to the Las Vegas incident but has since been modified to contain less graphic images, with the bulk of the violence now taking place off screen.
The violent nature of the scene was initially intended to draw awareness to the accessibility of firearms in the U.S., with Murphy saying it was "an obvious anti-gun warning about society," per the New York Daily News.
Speaking about the scene’s re-cut at a panel at Saturday’s New Yorker Festival, Murphy added that although he believed in the right to air the full segment, he also believed in the rights of the victims of the Las Vegas shooting.
"I believe that now is probably not the week to have something explosive or incendiary in the culture because someone who was affected might watch that and it could trigger something or make them feel upset," he added.
"American Horror Story" is not the first series to be affected by such violence.
TV Line reported that an episode of "The Carmichael Show" was postponed earlier this year in the wake of the Alexandria, Virginia, incident in which a gunman opened fire on Republican lawmakers on a baseball field, injuring four.
Furthermore, the season 3 premiere of TNT's "The Last Ship" was delayed following the Pulse nightclub mass shooting last year, when Omar Mateen opened fire in the nightclub leaving 49 dead and 53 wounded.
A scene in the season premiere featured gunmen opening fire on a Vietnamese nightclub, killing seven.
