American Airlines has finished deploying satellite-based internet access to its fleet of more than 700 narrowbody aircraft, endgadget reported on Monday.
These aircraft mainly handle the airline’s domestic routes and, with the upgrade, should have speedier, more consistent WiFi than previously, which depended on ground solutions.
The upgrade from American follows last year’s similar announcement, when it completed bringing the same system to all of its widebody fleet, according to techcrunch. At that point, only 13 percent of American’s narrowbody planes had the system.
“Elevating the travel experience is one of our top goals at American and we’ve been working hard to provide our customers with the same level of entertainment and connectivity options they enjoy in their own living rooms,” said American Airlines official Kurt Stache. “In less than two years, we completed broadband internet installation on our entire mainline fleet and we will continue setting new standards in the industry to show our customers we value the time they spend with us.”
The airline also plans in the near future to install power outlets in every seat for its mainline and two-class regional fleets. American also intends to introduce tablet holders to most of its narrowbody aircraft.
