Amber Heard had a chunk of her divorce settlement from Jonny Depp directed to the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, putting a positive ending on their ugly split.
The actress vowed in 2016 that she would gift the American Civil Liberties Union and the children’s hospital with a large sum from her $7 million divorce settlement, The Daily Mail reported.
Now that her divorce to Johnny Depp has been finalized, Heard has kept her word by donating between $1million to $4.9 million to the children’s hospital. The exact amount is unclear, but her name appears on the hospital’s Honor Roll of Donors for 2016 to 2017.
“We are honored to acknowledge our extraordinary donors for their generosity during fiscal year 2017,” the hospital said in its 2017 annual report.
Heard told People magazine that medical care has always been close to her heart.
“My philanthropic efforts have always been centered around medical care, especially with women and children,” she said.
“Medical care always struck me as a basic human right and necessity. I have been doing this type of work for the last 14 years with children’s hospitals and bringing, hopefully, laughs and alleviation and distraction to kids that are severely ill.”
Heard’s tremulous 15-month marriage to Depp was tainted with allegations of verbal and physical abuse, The New York Daily News reported, and When the split came, the actress announced her intention to donate the divorce settlement,.
“Money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves,” she said.
