An alligator that grabbed a woman while walking her dogs by a Florida lake was captured by trappers who found an arm in the 12.5-foot gator’s stomach. The victim was identified by a tattoo on the arm.

There were no witnesses to incident on Friday at Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park in Davie where Shizuka Matsuki, 47, had gone to walk her dogs, a source told WPLG-TV.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported a passerby saw a woman with two dogs near the lake and then a short time later saw the dogs barking at the water's edge but the woman was not there.

Matsuki's body was recovered from the lake that night. Her dogs, one with a fresh wound, were taken to Broward County Animal and Care and Adoption.

"It's not uncommon for her to go there," Peter Limia, a neighbor told the Sun Sentinel, adding that Matsuki and her husband, Yukio, regularly walked her three dogs within the gated Isla del Sol community.

"It's such a sad story, I can't even process it. Something like this is so freakish," he said.

Some neighbors had complained earlier about the alligators at the park, the Sun Sentinel said.

"They should have, at least, signs up, 'look out for gators and snakes,' because they have 'no swimming' signs, but no enforcement," Davie resident Edwin Gomez told WPLG-TV.

The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said that the park is city owned and signage is its responsibility.

"This tragedy is heartbreaking for everyone involved, and our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim at this time," Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Rob Klepper told KPLG-TV.
