Alaska Man Steals Forklift to Move Truck After DUI Crash: Police

By    |   Wednesday, 01 April 2015 04:33 PM EDT

An Alaska man allegedly stole a forklift and drove it three miles to try to move a truck he crashed early Monday morning, actions that led to a charge of driving under the influence.

Aleksander Aleksandrovich Glushko, 21, was arrested at the scene of the original truck crash in Fairbanks, Lt. Matt Soden of the Fairbanks Police Department told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.

Glushko had a breath-alcohol test of 0.230, three times the legal limit, police said.

Glushko allegedly crashed his truck into some pipes early Monday morning, and then walked to the George Horner Ice Park to find a forklift to free the truck, the News-Miner said.

On its Facebook page, the FPD reported that Glushko had two previous convictions for driving under the influence. The unusual crime made the department’s “Incident of the Month” club.

An Alaska Railroad worker told police about the forklift theft, saying he talked to the man driving it, later identified as Glushko, and was told by the man that he was taking it to fix a flat tire on his father’s truck, the News-Miner said.

Glushko faces charges of felony DUI and vehicle theft, the newspaper said.

Several people online expressed their shock at Glushko’s young age and two prior DUIs.

“Lock him up and toss out the key. He is a non-learner,” one person wrote on the police Facebook page.

“Well, let’s pray he gets SOBER,” one person wrote on the News-Miner story, to which another responded, “Let’s pray he goes to jail for a long time.”
