An Alabama school district has reversed its recent ban on the song "Amazing Grace," which remains a crowd-pleaser at high school football halftime shows.

Elmore County School District Superintendent Andre' Harrison said he changed his decision to ban the song after hearing from concerned parents and seeking legal counsel, AL.com reported.

Harrison posted about the decision on Facebook, saying: "After word of my decision circulated, I heard from many concerned parents, and frankly I still had reservations about my initial decision. I asked counsel to do further research on this issue and present me with options that would keep the district in legal compliance, but permit performance of one of the most iconic songs in the history of our nation."

The song was reportedly banned after someone complained to the district and called the school's central office saying that playing the song was unconstitutional.

"I was reminded that, as a public school, we simply cannot endorse a religious message in our activities," Harrison said initially.

But now the Holtville High School Marching Band will once again be allowed to play the song at halftime shows during the coming football season, WSFA-TV reported.

Many Twitter users objected to the ban.
