House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King accused the Obama administration Monday of ignoring reality by refusing to acknowledge the attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya was instigated by al-Qaida terrorists.
"They are hiding from reality," King told Fox News' Sean Hannity Monday evening.
"And the reason they don't want to admit this is a terrorist attack is because that shows their policies have failed, and they have failed miserably," the New York Republican added, noting that President Barack Obama has gotten a lot of political mileage out of claiming credit for Osama bin Laden's death and saying that al-Qaida "no longer is a force."
King also accused the administration of "malpractice," as he put it, for not putting stronger security measures in place to ensure the safety of the Libyan consulate and other U.S. embassies in the Middle East on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States.
"It was, to me, malpractice not to have security at that consulate on September 11th in the middle of al-Qaida territory when the American ambassador is coming there, and also knowing that we did know there were large demonstrations planned for Cairo," King said.
He called the failure "indefensible" and said it "has to be investigated" by Congress.
