Things seemed to be going well between Al Pacino, 79, and his much younger Israeli girlfriend, Meital Dohan, but appearances were deceiving.
Dohan has confirmed the relationship is over, stating that Pacino was "so old," according to Israel's La'Isha magazine.
"It's hard to be with a man so old, even Al Pacino," she is quoted as saying, according to People.
Dohan went on to explain that the age gap of roughly 40 years (there are conflicting reports as to how old Dohan is), put a strain on their relationship.
"I tried to deny it, but now he is already an elderly man, to be honest. So even with all my love, it didn't last," she said.
People magazine added that Dohan also said Pacino was reluctant to spend money on her.
"He only bought me flowers," the digital magazine quoted her in a story that remains its website.
A British law firm claiming to represent Dohan disputes the report, contending that the original source for People’s report, the English-language version of The Times of Israel, misquoted and mistranslated the actress. In an email to Newsmax, the law firm Schillings claims the Times of Israel, following its legal complaint, has “amended” its story “to remove” the quotes attributed to Dohan about Pacino’s spending habits.
Newsmax has reached out to People and the Times of Israel to confirm or deny its assertion.
The couple first met two years ago at an after-party. Their last major public appearance was with Pacino's 18-year-old daughter at the premiere of "The Irishman."
Earlier this month Pacino was seen alone on the red carpet of the Oscars, sparking speculation that the couple had split.
Dohan admitted she chose to leave the veteran actor following an argument but hoped they could still feature in each other's lives.
"It's an honor for me. I'm glad this relationship happened between us, and hope we remain good friends."
Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect that attorneys for Meital Dohan have disputed the quotes attributed to her by People magazine.
