A Moscow taxi driver was arrested after repeatdly ramming into an airport parking attendant and then dragging him almost 100 feet on the cars’s hood. Surveillance tapes from different angles gave a riveting account.
CCTV cameras first show the “drunk” and/or “hooligan” driver, per RT.com, cutting across two lanes and maneuvering the taxi onto a pedestrian zone at Vnukovo Airport, where he is approached by the parking attendant
Instead of stopping, the driver keeps smacking into the parking attendant, who eventually ends up clinging to the hood as the vehicle zig zags away.
Video footage then shows the driver, sans attendant, stopping at a toll gate, then accelerating right through the lowered boom.
RT said police managed within hours to identify and arrest the driver, an employee of Yandex Taxi, the leading Russian online taxi service.
He was reportedly charged with hooliganism, a crime in Russia carrying up to seven years in jail and heavy fines.
A press officer for Vnukovo Airport, Sergey Podolskiy, told RT that “according to the attendant, the driver seemed to be in an impaired state, and refused to answer any queries.”
He added that “a second attendant who tried to help his colleague said that he noticed a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the car.”
Earlier this year Yandex announced it would be combining its ridesharing business with Uber in Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus and Georgia.
The merger would result in a new company, NewCo, which would see Yandex owning approximately 59.3 percent, Uber owning 36.6 percent and employees of the company owning 4.1 percent.
