The search is on for an airman who disappeared from Scott Air Force Base in Illinois ahead of his scheduled court appearance Monday for alleged sexual abuse offenses.
Technical Sgt. David Lawrence Helm, 35, is wanted for questioning on offenses including sexual assault, sexual abuse of a child, indecent filming or photographing of a private area of another person without consent, and simple assault, a representative from the
Air Force Office of Special Investigations told KSDK.
The Air Force continued
searching Sunday for Helm, according to Fox News.
The airman was last seen May 29 on the base. Helm’s last communication with friends said he was planning to travel to La Follotte, Tennessee, to visit his parents, according to a flyer on the
Facebook page Find David Helm, Fox 2 St. Louis reported. He has not been heard from since.
Helm is believed to have been riding his black Yamaha Fz8 motorcycle with the license plate DM2809 IL. The
bike is also missing, according to Missing Veterans.
A flyer posted on Facebook by the AFOSI labels Helm a fugitive, but the Find David Helm page created by Helm’s ex-girlfriend claims that his friends and family fear the technical sergeant could be in danger, according to Fox 2. A missing persons report has been filed.
Helm is a white male who stand 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He has green eyes and dark brown and gray hair.
Missing Veterans reported the quickest route from the Air Foce base to La Follotte is taking I-64 East to Lexington, Kentucky, and then driving on I-75 South. The 451-mile trip typically takes 6 hours and 43 minutes.
According to KSDK, no further information was released on the charges.
