A tweet about the latest airline atrocity – a bad sandwich on Qantas Airways – has caught the attention of many on social media, according to the New Zealand news site Stuff.com.
Steve Purvinas, the federal secretary for the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers' Association, started the dustup with a Twitter post about a sandwich that was served on board his flight from Melbourne to Brisbane, Stuff.com wrote.
The post poked fun at Australian celebrity chef Neil Perry, who has worked with the airline on its inflight menu, but Stuff.com noted that it was not clear if the chef was involved with that particular meal.
"I really didn't have high expectations of what would be served... today on our flight from MEL to BNE but I did expect something more than this," read a caption photo Purvinas tweeted out.
Stuff.com wrote that according to the picture, the sandwich was made by Handmade Food Co. and supposed to be roast beef and horseradish.
"We can completely understand that the customer would have been disappointed with their meal," a Qantas representative said in a statement to News.com. "We'll be following up with our supplier and making it very clear that providing a filling sandwich is their bread and butter."
Purvinas' post prompted a flood of responses about service in Qantas and other local airlines.
