Aerosmith is planning a farewell tour next year, frontman Steven Tyler confirmed on the Howard Stern Show.
"I love this band, I really do, and I want to squash every thought that anybody might have about this … We're doing a farewell tour, but only because it's time. We've never done that," Tyler said before going on to joke that the tour would last "probably forever."
Tyler's comments confirm earlier statements he made to
Rolling Stone in May as well as comments from guitarist Brad Whitford.
But Tyler's manager Rebecca Warfield reassured fans that it doesn't mark the end of Aerosmith.
"They are not breaking up. That's not quite what he said," Warfield told
People magazine. "He is still the ultimate frontman for Aerosmith, the greatest American rock band of all time. Aerosmith will always be his first love and nothing will ever take that away."
Warfield called the rocker "more energized, brilliant, creative and on-point" as he plans for his solo "Out On A Limb" tour and the July 15 release of his album "We're All Somebody From Somewhere.:
"As far as 2017. Everyone will have to stay tuned as to hear what's up his sleeve. Steven is taking it up a notch in all his endeavors," Warfield said.
Tyler performed the title track from "We're All Somebody From Somewhere" on the Today show on Friday.
Twitter users took the farewell news with a mix of sadness and good humor.
