An Aer Lingus passenger died Sunday on a flight from Lisbon to Dublin after he was restrained because he reportedly became agitated and bit another passenger.
The 24-year-old man became upset about an hour into the flight and bit another passenger before he was restrained,
according to RTE News. The flight was diverted to Cork Airport in Ireland because of the incident.
The Aer Lingus captain told air traffic controllers that the restrained passenger was "running amok" and that he had "injured one or two passengers," according to the
Irish Mirror. The captain also told airport officials that a doctor on board was assisting in trying to restrain the passenger.
The passenger eventually fell unconscious, RTE News noted, and the crew told air traffic control the passenger and no longer had a pulse.
The passenger, who was not identified, was pronounced dead on the airplane and no explanation was given on what caused the death.
A Portuguese woman passenger was arrested in connection with the man's death under Ireland's drug trafficking law, reported
The Guardian. A substance was found in her bags.
The remaining passengers were allowed to continue their journey to Dublin after they were delayed three hours after the emergency landing at Cork airport.
The aircraft carried 168 passengers and six crew members.
