Adrian Houser, Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher, vomited twice during Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies, but still managed to finish the inning.
The right-hander was pitching in the eighth inning of the Brewers' 10-9 loss to the Phillies when he vomited behind the mound, ESPN reported.
Manager Craig Counsell came out to check on Houser but the Brewers reliever stayed in the game and faced three more hitters during the inning.
Houser said the sickness was brought on by a combination of traveling and not having enough food to eat.
"I was trying to stay hydrated in the bullpen, and got ready pretty quick," he said, according to WPVI-TV. "It's pretty hot here compared to Colorado Springs, so I think it just got all combined and got me."
Houser had to leave Colorado Springs at 5 a.m. on Sunday to make his flight to Chicago before having to drive to Milwaukee, finally making it to Miller Park with about 30 minutes to spare, MLB.com reported.
Several states have been gripped by a heatwave, with heat advisories and warnings in place and, with all things considered, Houser's iron-willed determination to continue playing was to be applauded.
He even drew applause from Phillies manager Gabe Kapler.
"I have a lot of respect for anybody who would step behind the mound and throw up and step back on the mound and pitch," he said, according to WPVI-TV.
Chase Anderson, who surrendered a season-high six runs over 5 1/3 innings on Sunday, said Houser's grit was admirable.
"You tip your cap to that," he said, according to MLB.com. "That's hard to do. Hopefully he gets to feeling better."
