For seven years the public watched as the tumultuous marriage between Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian unfolded before their eyes but one particularly shocking incident has remained hidden – until now. Opening up about his drug addiction, Odom revealed he once threatened to kill Kardashian during a drug-induced rage.
The former NBA player recounted the incident in his new memoir, "Darkness to Light," describing how he was sitting in his "man cave" getting high on cocaine and ecstasy when a concerned Kardashian called his friends for help.
"Khloé came down and knocked on the door," he writes, according to US Weekly. "I opened it suddenly and grabbed her forcefully by the shoulders, which frightened her. 'What the f–k are you doing?' I screamed, out of my mind. 'You trying to embarrass me in front of my friends? I'll f–king kill you! You don't know what I'm capable of!'"
This week Odom told ABC's "Good Morning America" that when he used cocaine it was "like unleashing a demon." In this case, Kardashian came face to face with that beast.
"I'm pretty sure she had to be scared at that point in time," he said. "I'm thinking about it now, like, I couldn't believe how I was treating that queen like that."
The 39-year-old said he owed his former wife and her family an apology.
"Her friends and family, they had to be embarrassed," he said.
In his memoirs, Odom describes the incident as a low point in his relationship and his life.
"I was embarrassed and ashamed . . . the most regrettable moment in a series of regrettable moments," he writes.
His turning point came shortly after splitting with Kardashian when, during a four-day bender, he almost died in a Las Vegas brothel, GMA noted. He entered a rehab clinic in 2016 and has not taken drugs since.
"I guess I made it . . . in some peoples' eyes," he said. "But I mean . . . the ride was, was rocky, but . . . I'm here."
