Social media star Adam Perkins, who popularized #whiteteen and went viral for his "Hi, Welcome to Chili's" video on the now-defunct app Vine, has died at 24.

His twin brother, Patrick Perkins, confirmed the news on Tuesday in an Instagram post.

"my brother, Adam Perkins, passed away this previous Sunday, 4-11-21," he captioned a black and white photo of the two together.

"i can’t even really put into words what this loss means for me. i’m often asked the question, “what’s it like to be a twin?” and my response is usually, “what’s it like to NOT be a twin?” being a twin is a very central part of my identity. it’s all i’ve known. and i’m struggling to find the words to explain what it will be like for me to live in this world without him. my best friend."

Adam gained close to 290,000 followers on Vine, and maintained a high profile when he moved over to Instagram, where he describes himself as a composer and musician. In 2018 he recorded an album, "Latch Relay," which Patrick said he would be releasing on a limited edition vinyl in remembrance of his brother. The album would be the first to be released on Plas Teg Records, a record label that will "seek to fulfill" Adam's "musical destiny that was so tragically cut short."

Adam's ex-boyfriend, Kelton Elliot, also took to Instagram to honor the social media star.

"This past weekend my forever best friend and ex-boyfriend passed, and I’ve been devastated," he wrote, adding that they spend "almost every day and night" together in "our little home" in 2020 and 2021, until Elliot relocated to Oregon.

"We were there for each other during the hardest year of our lives. I could and have talked about him for hours, but I’m just saying one thing right now: Me and him discussed how we’d want to be remembered after we died, and he said he’d like to be remembered for his art, his music," he said.

In his post, Elliot included a series of photos of him and Adam together. He also shared a screenshot of Adam's song, Redwood Reverie, on Spotify, which he said was one of his favorite songs from his album.

"Last week he was working on more to release," Elliot said of Adam's music. "Give his music a listen, and know that the artist was loved so so so much."
