Abba will release new material for the first time in 35 years, giving fans something else to look forward to in addition to the iconic pop band's upcoming avatar tour, NME reported.
The band recently announced they would be touring in 2019, in virtual hologram form, and now the deal just got sweeter.
In a statement released to social media Friday, Abba band members Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Faltskog confirmed the new tracks.
"The decision to go ahead with the exciting Abba avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence," the statement said. "We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday."
According to Abba, the project resulted in two new songs, one of which will be performed in a TV special produced by NBC and the BBC aimed for broadcasting in December.
"We may have come of age, but the song is new, and it feels good," the statement said.
The double whammy has Abba fans celebrating.
Last year the band announced its digital tour which, according to NME, would feature virtual representations of each member performing alongside a live band.
"Our fans around the world are always asking us to reform and so I hope this new ABBA creation will excite them as much as it excites me!" Lyngstad said on the band's website.
"We're inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here," Andersson added. "A time machine that captures the essence of who we were. And are."
