A woman is facing 96 felony charges for identity theft and criminal mistreatment after she was rescued last summer in Florence, Oregon, by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Heather May Mounce was rescued by a helicopter after disappearing for four days last August, with her then-husband finding her stranded on a cliff, the Salem Statesman Journal reported.
She is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the Dallas Retirement Village and a couple who owned OpenRoad Transportation, as well as stealing the identity of Antony Emil Britt, an elderly man she was taking care of, the Journal reported.
Other charges include misuse of information “with the intent to deceive or defraud, convert to defendant’s own use, create, obtain, possess, transfer and utter personal identification of” a number of businesses, including Career Builder, Monster.com, Oregon Center for Nursing and Survey Monkey, the Journal reported.
The charges are from September 2014 to July 14, the Journal reported.
The Dallas Retirement Village said in a statement, “We are working closely with the state and Polk County Attorney’s Office in their investigation of this individual and former employee. The safety and wellbeing of our residents is our top priority and we have comprehensive policies and procedures in place to protect them. We can assure that she had no access to any personal resident records,” NBC4 reported.
Mounce’s husband filed for divorce in November, and Mounce’s attorney Jeffrey Jones said he didn’t know about the charges, NBC4 reported. Jones also said his client would be entering a not guilty plea at her arraignment in August.
