4-Year-Old Girl's Slushie Craving Leads Her Onto Philly Bus at 3AM

A 4-year-old Philadelphia girl left her house about 3 a.m. Friday seeking a Slushie while her unaware parents slept, and she was found and helped by an area bus driver.

After finding the little girl, Annabelle, alone on the dark streets, dressed in a purple coat, boots, and her pajamas, a passenger who had just stepped off SEPTA 56 stopped the driver, ABC 6 reported.

"Got to be kidding me! At this time, at 3 o'clock on the morning," bus driver Harlan Jenifer told ABC. "She's a small little thing. It kind of just shocked me."

Jenifer contacted police, who took the girl to an area hospital to find her parents, ABC said.

Mother Jaclyn Mager and father Timothy Ridgeway were shocked their daughter would leave the house, and told ABC they were fixing their locks so she couldn’t get out.

Annabelle seemed unconcerned at her adventure, asking her mom as ABC 6 filmed, "Mom, can you take me to Wawa and get me a Slushie?"

"I will take you to Wawa and get you a Slushie," Jaclyn answered. "But listen, promise me next time you'll wait for me, OK?"

Ridgeway told ABC that it was easy to allow his imagination to take over and see how this could have ended tragically.

“Thank God for the bus driver," he said.

Jenifer, who has three kids, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he was relieved the girl was OK.

“It was too funny," Jenifer told the newspaper after the girl was safely home. "I was scared for her, but it was funny. She was in good hands."

The little girl kept saying, “All I want is a Slushie,” Jenifer told the Inquirer. Surveillance video showed Annabelle wandering around the bus. Jenifer said she was “drenching wet” from the rainy night, and “trembling.”
