A New York man received the shock of his life after he was slapped with a $38 million electric bill for his 600 square foot apartment! Frustrated, Tommy Straub of Queens took to Twitter to air his grievances at Con Edison for the "insane" bill.

"I own a 600 square foot apartment in Astoria, Qns. I do NOT own the entirety of Manhattan Island," he tweeted the energy company, adding that they needed to rectify the situation.

Shortly after firing off the first tweet, Straub posted a photo of his correspondence with Con Ed's customer support, which he sarcastically referred to as "top-notch."

Commenting on the matter, a Con Ed spokesperson told the New York Daily News that they were looking into why Straub received a $38 million electrical bill, which was most likely a computer error, and were working towards resolving the issue.

"We have to look into it to see what happened," the spokesperson said, adding that it was the biggest billing error the company has ever seen.

This is not the first time Con Ed has made headlines for billing mishaps. In 2016, a Bronx woman sat in darkness for over three months after she was unable to pay a mounting bill of $78,000, which she told WABC was an error.

"I tried to call the commissioner, I called Con Edison," she said. "I called this, I called that. Nobody wanted to help."

According to the report, Sandra Berrios was paying an average of $120 to $130 per month for her electric bill but that amount suddenly jumped to more than $9,000 and continued to accumulate. Eventually Con Ed restored her gas and electricity after a city agency agreed to settle the bill on her behalf.
