2015 Corvette Stingray's Luxury, Performance Versions Evoke US Coasts

The 2015 Corvette Stingray will go on sale this year with two new design packages geared toward the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

The Atlantic Convertible “favors luxury and comfort,” the New York Daily News said. It offers "Chrome Torque" alloy wheels, a front splitter, “shark Gray” vents on the body, and even its own set of luggage.

The Pacific Coupe is more focused on performance and features racing stripes, a rear spoiler and roof panel, red brake calipers, and competition-style seats.

Although there’s no price tag on either version yet, the Daily News said the Stingray starts at $51,995 for the coupe and $56,995 for the convertible. Special editions will probably add $10,000 to $15,000 to that price.

"One of the design goals for the Corvette Stingray was to provide customers with the flexibility to tailor the car to their personality," Kirk Bennion, Corvette exterior design manager, said in a statement. "The Atlantic and Pacific Design Packages were originally designed to showcase how the Stingray could be configured as a luxury sport GT car or as a high-performance motorsport car."

Chevrolet actually debuted models of the two cars in November, checking to see if there might be interest among buyers. After getting a positive vibe, they put the cars into production.

Comments on Car & Driver varied on the new designs.

“I prefer the West Coast one, it's more aggressive. The East Coast one looks like a version for octogenarians and I hate chrome wheels and angled spokes,” one person wrote. “It just looks tacky and passé and reminds me of everything that was wrong about previous Vettes and that Chevy tried to get rid of this time around.”

“Love or hate the design, either way, this car has the stage presence of a Ferrari in person,” another wrote. “That's something the Corvette really hasn't been able to achieve in the past, with the exception of the C3. Kudos to GM for making such a head-turning, balls-to-the-wall, eat-you-for-lunch beast of a car.”
