The average price of gas per gallon in the U.S. is $4.919 as of June 7, according to the American Automobile Association.

On Jan. 20, 2021, the day when President Joe Biden was sworn into office, the average price of gas was $2.39.

Gas prices have more than doubled under the Biden administration.

On Thursday, members of the OPEC+ cartel announced they would boost oil production 50% in July and August, which the Biden admin was quick to tout as some relief for soaring energy prices in the U.S.

The Biden administration has repeatedly tapped the nation's strategic oil reserves, criticized energy companies for not increasing production and accused oil and gas companies of price gouging at the pump. The administration has also blamed Russia President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine for causing the U.S. and other nations to ban the import of Russian oil and gas, putting additional pressure on top of inflated energy prices.

Republicans counter that Democrats' policy agenda to move the U.S. away from fossil fuel to green energy is why the Biden administration is not concerned about rising gas prices.

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement to Fox: "Joe Biden's war on American energy has forced families across the country to empty their wallets to fill up their tanks. Unfortunately, Biden is doubling down on his disastrous agenda because he's not paying the price — the American people are."

GasBuddy pretroleum analyst Patrick De Haan predicts the average price of gas per gallon in the United States will reach $5 a gallon as soon as June 17.
